Black Country Museum's audio systems are updated
During August, Audioposts Ltd have been working with Kathleen Howe of the Black Country Living Museum to replace six tired audio systems
within the museum. The old and unreliable CD based playback systems used to play information about buildings within the museum, were replaced with solid state
players with no moving parts.
Each system had a different specification and were triggered differently using movement sensors, push buttons or timed using programmable controllers and had to be discrete, no cables or speakers were to be seen. In the Back to Back cottages, speaker placement was an issue as there was no where to site speakers so they would not be seen. Special acuators were attached to the back of cupboards and wooden panels turning these surfaces into speakers. The actuators vibrate the wooden panels creating very high quality sound.
To avoid installing cables in the Newcomen Engine, a wireless system was used to trigger the playback system.
